BIOGRAPHY
INÊS ZINHO PINHEIRO
Inês trained in Lisbon at the Dance Conservatory for eight years, and then one year at CINEVOX Junior Company. Following, she did a BA in Ballet and Contemporary Dance at The Rambert School, and after graduating she worked as a freelance dancer, still in London. Succeeding, she completed her MA on Dance Philosophy and History at the University of Roehampton.
As a freelance dancer, besides working with Jason Mabana Dance, Arielle Smith, Julie Cuningham and Sasha Milavic Davies, Inês collaborated with musicians and artists and participated in art installations/performances, dance films and dance festivals (e.g.: Dance Umbrella and the Dark Music Days festival – Reykjavik).
Currently, she is back in Portugal, teaching at the Higher School of Dance of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon. Here, she leads Ballet and Contemporary Dance classes, as well as Masterclasses, that include creative and experimental workshops, connecting music, dance and visual arts.
Alongside the musician Albert E. Dean, they created a project called ‘Sonic Voyaging’ where they invite musicians and dancers to collaborate to build improvisational structures and then perform them.
Currently, she is working collaboratively with the musician Lilja Ásmundsdóttir on an article which explores inner conversations of dancers and musicians, a theme which arose during her MA studies. Lilja and Inês also continue to collaborate on a piece with an ‘instrumental installation’.
