SONIC VOYAGING

sv4.jpg

This project arose from the search for connections between music and dance through a sonic and special sharing between dancers and musicians. Such a sharing allows a kind of travelling present both in music and dance, which does not involve geographical changes, but that develops sound with movement.

The project uses a method that is felt and not shaped. Essentially, it consists in a brief creative process that requires a concentration focused on the ephemerality of sharing.

Due to the inherent rotativity of a big percentage of the participants (musicians and dancers) from session to session, the first phase consists of connecting all the artists through a group warm-up and an introduction to contextualise the base ideas of the project. On the second phase, we proceed to an improvisation/experimentation as a group, where, depending the direction that is spontaneously taken, we delimit already some of the guidelines for the sharing with an audience. Finally, on the third phase, we continue experimenting and structuring those guidelines, leaving always open the possibility of something new being created during the actual sharing, generating a mutable and flexible structure.

The project aims to escape the habitual format of the creative process and of presentation of these artistic areas, not by chance, but as a choice. We are precisely interested in exploring the possibility of presenting something with an immediate and spontaneous nature, where we allow certain creative aspects to be out of our control.

Thus, the project gains force and proportions that add new dimensions to future sessions, allowing a continuity into this research. Even with the presence of some of the core participants who have accompanied the project from its beginning, their approach is always different. This is due to their varied states of mind and research interests that each experience throughout time. Adding to this rotativity of the other participants denotes itself as a bet on the singularity of each session, making it impossible the existence of two similar sharings.

We believe in the importance of a constant collaboration between artists from varied areas, allowing new connections both at an artistic and personal level. Such a dynamism and collaboration are essential to the individual and collective development.

We have been hosting our workshops and sharings at Núcleo A70 in Lisbon.
